Secretary Mr. Madhu Kumar Marasini is an accomplished civil servant with over 30 years of experience across Government of Nepal, in the World Bank Group, and diplomatic missions. Trained as an international and development economist, his distinguished career expands over economic development, fiscal policy reform, international aid negotiation, development finance mobilization, climate finance, international trade, investment, and economic diplomacy. He currently serves as the member secretary at National Planning Commission, NPC, Nepal, where he is steering the implementation process of 16th periodic plan, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and ensuring for an irreversible and sustainable graduation from the Least Developed Country, LDC, status by 2026.
Prior to this, Mr Marasini has served as the Finance Secretary of the Government of Nepal for two terms. He played a pivotal role in maintaining macroeconomic stability during the post-pandemic economic hardships. A keen enthusiast in green economy, he initiated, on behalf of the Government of Nepal, the Green Resilient and Inclusive Development, GRID, initiatives and signed the initiatives with the World Bank, ADB and 15 other development partners in 2021. He played a decisive role in introducing green tax in fossil fuels and GHG emitting items though the Budget of the FY 2024/25. During the COP26 in Glasgow, Mr. Marasini signed a LOI with the LEAF Coalition, a public private initiative on carbon trading.
Mr. Marasini holds degrees and certificates in the filed of economics, law, and public administration from the Australian National University, Tribhuvan University, and Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
