Dr Salamat Ali is a professional trade economist at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. He leads the initiatives on enhancing intra-Commonwealth trade in goods and services, climate-smart trade and investment, and the linkages between trade and sustainability. In his professional career spanning over two decades, he has supervised Customs and VAT operations, implemented circular economy and green trade projects, and provided technical assistance on trade policy reforms in developing countries. He has authored a series of policy-focused and academic publications on sustainable production and trade, digitally deliverable services, and the nexus between trade and climate change. Dr Ali has a distinguished academic background, having earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, USA, and an MPA in Economic Policy Management from the London School of Economics, followed by a PhD in International Trade from the University of Nottingham, UK.
